Wrongly convicted of the brutal murders of his wife and her lover, Andy Dufresne is sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious Shawshank prison. As he navigates the harsh realities of incarceration, he forms an unlikely friendship with fellow inmate Red, discovering that even in the darkest of places, hope can endure.

Based on Stephen King’s celebrated novella, this gripping adaptation tells an unforgettable story of hope, friendship and the resilience of the human spirit. The 1994 feature film was nominated for seven Academy Awards.

The lead cast is acclaimed television, film and theatre actor David Berry (Outlander, A Place To Call Home, Home and Away) as Andy Dufresne, who is wrongly sentenced to life for murdering his wife and her lover; prolific stage and television actor Bert LaBonté (The Book of Mormon, Colin From Accounts, Cloudstreet) as Red, a long-term inmate who forms an unlikely friendship with Andy; and recognised screen actor Rodger Corser (Doctor Doctor, Rush, Channel 9’s The Floor) as The Warden, the cruel prison boss.

The Shawshank Redemption stage show contains mature themes and trigger warnings common to the story, including strong profanity, depictions of severe prison violence, institutional corruption, and attempted sexual assault. The production is highly visceral, using tight staging to evoke claustrophobia and the grim realities of prison life.

David Berry is an acclaimed Australian-Canadian actor known for his powerful screen presence and emotionally rich performances across television, film and theatre. He rose to national prominence as James Bligh in the beloved Australian period drama A Place to Call Home, before captivating global audiences with his portrayal of Lord John Grey in the hit Starz series Outlander.

Originally born in Toronto and raised in Sydney, Berry cultivated a deep artistic foundation through music and performance. A gifted violinist and vocalist, he performed with Opera Australia in his youth and later pursued studies in political science and media before graduating from the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).

One of Australia’s leading men, Bert LaBonté recently captivated audiences as the Observer in Putting It Together (Impresario). Previously he performed the much-acclaimed role of as Toulouse-Lautrec in Moulin Rouge! The Musical (Global Creatures). Bert toured in the role of Mafala for the first Australian tour of The Book of Mormon (Watchtower Productions) and recently reprised the role in Jones Theatrical’s latest production. Other theatre credits include his Helpmann Award Winning role in An Officer and a Gentleman (Gordon Frost Organisation), Chess (The Production Company), Grey Gardens (The Production Company) and others.

His Melbourne Theatre Company credits include The Truth, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Lungs, Rupert, Birdland, The Mountaintop, Elling and others. For Sydney Theatre Company, he has performed in Fences, A Raisin in the Sun, All My Sons, The Grenade and Spelling Bee, and his Malthouse Theatre credits include Cloudstreet, I am A Miracle and Time Share.

Rodger Corser is one of Australia’s most recognised screen actors, with an extensive career across television, film and theatre. He received six Silver and three Gold TV WEEK Logie Award nominations for his acclaimed portrayal of Dr Hugh Knight in the Nine Network hit Doctor Doctor (The Heart Guy internationally), which he also co-produced.

His recent screen credits include ABC’s Austin, Netflix’s Thai Cave Rescue as 2019 Australian of the Year Dr Richard “Harry” Harris, Paramount+’s Five Bedrooms, BBC’s Queen of Oz, and My Life Is Murder. His extensive television credits also include Underbelly, Rush, Puberty Blues, Party Tricks, Glitch, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, The Doctor Blake Mysteries, The Beautiful Lie, Spirited, Stingers, McLeod’s Daughters, Home and Away and Water Rats.
