Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy. The foundations laid by these ancestors give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations, both First Nations and non-First Nations peoples, towards creating a better Queensland.

Glasshouse Theatre

The 1500 seat Glasshouse Theatre joins the Playhouse, Lyric Theatre, Concert Hall and Cremorne Theatre to make QPAC the largest performing arts centre in Australia under one roof, with the potential to welcome an additional 300,000 visitors a year to the Centre.

The Glasshouse was designed the design team of Blight Rayner in partnership with Snøhetta. Drawing inspiration from the Brisbane River as an important meeting place for telling stories, the design respects the heritage listed Queensland Cultural Centre while creating a new place with its own identity.
Key design features of the venue include
  • an iconic rippled glass facade
  • transparent foyer spaces
  • a single balcony auditorium delivering enhanced audience sight lines
  • provision for additional studio spaces under the theatre’s auditorium
  • a significant First Nations public artwork, Floriate by Torres Strait Islander artist Brian Robinson, in the external entry forecourt
The Glasshouse includes a computer controlled automated fly system, QPAC's most flexible orchestra pit with five different size configurations, and a state-of-the-art digital broadcast suite that integrates with all five venues allowing livestreaming and recordings for delayed streams. The venue will welcome a variety of performances including ballet, opera, theatre, major musical production while offering the flexibility to accommodate new and emerging theatre styles.
