Overview

A new Christmas classic

With a landmark world premiere in Brisbane in December 2026, Queensland Ballet’s new production of The Nutcracker returns for its second festive season in 2027.

Commissioned by and created for Queensland, this enchanting reimagining by internationally celebrated choreographer Derek Deane OBE and award-winning designer Lez Brotherston OBE, ushers in a new era for a beloved Christmas tradition. Their vision transforms Clara’s magical journey into a feast for the senses, featuring exquisite choreography, breathtaking stagecraft, sumptuous costumes and enchanting characters, all illuminated by Tchaikovsky’s timeless score.

Created for Queensland audiences and destined to become a cherished festive tradition, this grand-scale production captures the wonder, imagination and joy at the heart of the holiday season. Whether rediscovering the magic or experiencing it for the first time, audiences of all ages will be swept away by this spectacular celebration of Christmas.
