Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy. The foundations laid by these ancestors give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations, both First Nations and non-First Nations peoples, towards creating a better Queensland.

Overview

A tale of two Williams …

Buckle up and prepare for an intergalactic adventure as your pilot, Simon Hewett, takes the helm of the Millennium Falcon – also known as the Queensland Youth Symphony (QYS). This thrilling musical journey will traverse galaxies near and far, beginning with Liebermann’s dramatic and romantically charged Flute Concerto, performed by QYS principal flautist Nathan Smith.

Next, they set course for the cinematic brilliance of John Williams’ The Empire Strikes Back Symphonic Suite, a suite as iconic as the saga itself. With its soaring themes and galactic grandeur, it promises to transport you straight into the heart of the Star Wars universe.

Finally, their journey ends with William Walton’s Symphony No. 2, a piece so evocative it seems the English composer might have visited Tatooine, Hoth, and the Dagobah System decades before George Lucas introduced us to “a galaxy far, far away”.

Whether you’re a Star Wars fan, a lover of symphonic masterpieces, or simply seeking an unforgettable musical adventure, this concert promises to be a stellar experience.

Program

Lieberman – Flute Concerto
Walton – Symphony No. 2
