About the Artists
Andrew Gurruwiwi Band
Just like King Stingray and Baker Boy before them, the Andrew Gurruwiwi Band are the next hot musical act to burst out of Arnhem Land, NT. Led by the one and only Andrew Gurruwiwi – a shy-but-extravagant, blind, keytar-wielding Yolngu elder with a passion to make people dance while sharing his culture. A high-energy, 8-piece funk band with a truly fresh sound, the Andrew Gurruwiwi Band write real funk jams in their native tongue, Yolngu Matha.
J-MILLA
Award-winning hip-hop artist J-MILLA is a proud member of the Marranungu people, who are the traditional landowners of the Litchfield National Park in the NT. Born in Darwin, J-MILLA’s life started hard from the get-go; yet he managed to find a way to stand outside the intergenerational trauma pathway that affects so many Aboriginal families. Losing himself in music and storytelling was what got him through this turbulent time and where J-MILLA’s passion for writing lyrics and telling his own stories began. His lyrical content swings between deep societal commentary and bangin’ club vibes. Expect new music from J-MILLA to be dropping soon!
Jungaji
Jungaji is a First Nations songman, visual artist, playwright, and activist who has been renowned in the Australian music industry for three decades. First appearing on the scene as a teenager with Aim4More in the 90s, he has now embarked on a new creative path fusing Soul and R&B to create a unique and authentic sound that showcases his cultural roots. Performing with his band this July, Jungaji is a force to be reckoned with, where his dynamic live performances and his incredible gifts as a storyteller will fill you with awe.
Radical Son
Radical Son is one of the mightiest voices and most compelling performers currently rising on the Australian concert, festival and dramatic stage. A Kamilaroi man with Tongan heritage, his work draws immense power and resolve from a challenging past and a style that melds the urgency of hip-hop and the emotional punch of soul, as heard on two albums to date: Cause N’Affect (2014) and his stunning forthcoming album Bilambiyal (The Learning), releasing soon. A captivating soul voice and commanding presence, Radical Son will not leave you unmoved.
