Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy. The foundations laid by these ancestors give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations, both First Nations and non-First Nations peoples, towards creating a better Queensland.

Growing Back by SOLCHLD

SOLCHLD

Thursday, 1 August 2024, 5pm

SOLCHLD invites you into her garden of truth, with her developing work Growing Back, a night of powerful poetic prose and honest soulful tunes that speak to the regenerative power of mother nature and her children.

Following a successful first showing as part of BEMAC’s Live Series, Growing Back returns to the stage at QPAC’s Clancestry for an intimate concert in the Cremorne Theatre.

Growing Back is a heartening and cathartic performance of music, movement and poetry. Accompanied by dancers and her live band, SOLCHLD weaves between themes of power, revolution, love and healing, guiding the audience to a place where seeds are planted, and a new paradigm can grow.

About SOLCHLD

SOLCHLD (Aurora Liddle-Christie) is a Meanjin based Arrernte-Afro-Caribbean multidisciplinary artist, whose music, poetry and performance navigates the liminal experience of this current time on our planet, posing the question, ‘How do we heal?’. Coming from two strong cultural influences, SOLCHLD’s Arrernte (traditional custodians of Mparntwe/ Alice Springs) and Jamaican roots bleed into the rich storytelling that is the centre of her practice.

Duration: 1 hour (no interval, subject to change without notice)

Eat Slay Zombie by Alinta McGrady

Eat Slay Zombie

Friday, 2 August 2024, 4:30pm

Never fear, the @BLKBUNKERBTCHES are here!

The zombie apocalypse has finally happened and TikTok is the sole form of communication. This is a world of zombie kill tallies, educational doomsday TikToks, and out-of-bounds Bunnings. Sheree and Tash are bunking down in a bowling alley, when another survivor turns up, challenging their isolation. Maybe it’s time to explore who, and what else, is out there? With big decisions to make, and no working flamethrower to protect them, how do two Blak women navigate a world that is actively trying to kill them?

Eat Slay Zombie is a horror/comedy about colonisation, friendship and state occupation – except it’s zombies.

Derived from QPAC and Playlab Theatre’s Sparks program this new work is one not to miss. Enjoy a sneak peek of the newest work at Clancestry before it premieres on stage later this year.

About Alinta McGrady

A Githabul, Migunberri-Yugumbeh woman residing and working between Tulmur and Meanjin. Alinta is a seasoned multidisciplinary artist who has performed with the likes of Hot Brown Honey, Polytoxic and artists such as Xavier Rudd and Blue King Brown. A wordsmith who weaves stories through lyrical wit-poetry and catchy melody, she is now set to make her debut as playwright with her fierce, funny work, Eat Slay Zombie.

Duration: 1 hour and 30 min (no interval, subject to change without notice)
