About Claire Marshall
Claire Marshall is an award-winning Australian choreographer whose work comprises independent live productions, site-specific dance, dance films, as well as music videos and tours for many Australian music icons. Over the past decade, Claire has turned her focus toward the evolving art form of screendance, choreographing specifically for the camera and location. She has a unique ability to meld cinematic technique with choreographic composition, collaborating closely with cinematographers to create work that is immersive, emotionally resonant, and explicitly crafted for the screen.
Named in The Conversation as one of the top five Australian choreographers to watch in 2023, Claire’s eleven dance films have screened in over 150 film festivals in 45 countries and garnered international acclaim. She has three Australian Dance Award finalist nominations and won an Australian Dance Award for Ward of State in 2015.
Claire holds a Bachelor of Arts (Dance) from the Queensland University of Technology and a Master of Fine Arts (Dance) from the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne (First-class honours), where she investigated experimental methods in dance filmmaking.
Claire is delighted to share her work with Digital Stage, made possible by QPAC, which provides a platform for these films to be presented beyond a short one-off season in a film festival. She hopes these stories will resonate with audiences and serve as a resource for senior students and dance film enthusiasts.
