Overview

Be transported through the romance of music with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra.

Opening with Frank Martin’s Études for Strings (no.2), this piece is a rare treat as it is not often performed. A brilliant showcase of string music, it is widely considered a tour de force for Martin’s remarkable gift for contrast.

Featuring Tchaikovsky’s beloved Serenade for Strings, this pinnacle of string music is dazzlingly romantic. Taking a page out of Mozart’s book, Serenade for Strings is charming and delightful – but the heart-rending melodies imbue this music with passion and abandon, qualities that have come to define what we love about Tchaikovsky’s compositions.

The thrilling Starburst for string orchestra by Jessie Montgomery then receives its Camerata debut. Named by the BBC as “one of the most distinctive voices in the USA, as a player and creator” the American violinist and composer creates vibrantly inventive original works.

Copland’s Appalachian Spring is full of nostalgia, perhaps because of its quintessentially American sound, and in doing so you can’t help but be transported to the oft‑forgotten beauty and idealism of the American landscape. Camerata will be joined by our wind playing friends and pianist Alex Raineri to present this splendid music.

A program that showcases the radiance of the strings and the passion and energy that Camerata is known for. Not to be missed!
