Overview

Jane Austen’s
Pride & Prejudice

Adapted By Wendy Mocke and Lewis Treston
Directed By Bridget Boyle and Daniel Evans

The original regency rom-com returns

Following a sell-out season, Queensland Theatre Company’s Matilda Award-winning production of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice is back. This world-class production returns to the Playhouse for one more glorious “turn about the room” – for a strictly limited season.

Austen’s definitive romantic comedy comes to life on a grand theatrical scale, with an all-star Queensland cast, magnetic chemistry and a love story you’ll fall for all over again.

Smart, spirited and fearless, Elizabeth Bennet is an independent young woman who dearly loves a laugh and is not afraid to poke fun where fun is most definitely warranted. At odds with her husband-hunting sisters and dithery mother, Elizabeth longs for the power to determine her own marital fate.

Amidst the glittering swirl of Regency balls, gossip and social expectation, Elizabeth encounters the arrogant, aloof, but infuriatingly eligible Mr Darcy. The two are more alike than either would care to admit, and their journey from “tolerable” to triumphant remains one of literature’s most satisfying romances – filled with longing glances, bruised pride and the thrill of falling for the last person you expected.

But Elizabeth and Darcy are not the only hearts at stake. Across sisters, suitors, families and fortunes, Austen’s world is alive with love stories, near misses and unlikely attractions. More than two centuries later, Pride & Prejudice remains as relevant as ever – and this lavish theatrical retelling brings the original romantic comedy to the stage with all its wit, romance and social mischief.

Penned by Patrick White Award winners Wendy Mocke and Lewis Treston, and directed by Bridget Boyle and Daniel Evans, this production brings Austen’s world to life with a sweeping ensemble cast that made InReview conclude: “Jane Austen would be so pleased.”

A perfect match? Most ardently. This strictly limited return will sell out again. Secure your bonnet and make haste.
