Overview

An energetic street dance workshop designed to deepen students’ understanding of the relationship between music and movement

Led by professional teaching artists, this hands-on session invites young people to explore how movement communicates with sound with a focus on musicality, rhythm, timing, and self-expression. Inspired by the work’s playful spirit, the workshop offers an engaging practical experience that connects performance with participation.

Years 5 – 6

  • AC9ADA6E01 – explore ways that the elements of dance are combined to communicate ideas, perspectives and/or meaning in dance across cultures, times, places and/or other contexts.
  • AC9ADA6D01 – develop and practice technical and expressive skills using safe dance practice and the elements of dance.
  • AC9ADA6C01 – manipulate the elements of dance and/or choreographic devices to choreograph dances that communicate ideas, perspectives and/or meaning.
  • AC9ADA6P01 – practice dances using technical and expressive skills in informal and/or formal settings.

Years 7-8

  • AC9ADA8E01 – investigate ways that performers and/or choreographers across cultures, times, places and/or other contexts use the elements of dance, choreographic devices and/or production elements to communicate ideas, perspectives and/or meaning.
  • AC9ADA8D01 – develop safe dance practice and use of expressive and technical skills and style-specific techniques.
  • AC9ADA8D02 – reflect on own and others’ dance works and/or practices to inform choreographic choices and use of technical and expressive skills.
  • AC9ADA8C02 – apply technical and expressive skills and style-specific techniques to communicate ideas, perspectives and/or meaning.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, students will be able to:

  • Apply dance elements to interpret and respond to music
  • Use choreographic devices to structure movement in relation to music
  • Perform movement with technical and expressive skills, demonstrating musicality and style
  • Reflect on how movement and sound interact to communicate meaning and enhance performance
