Overview
Prepare to be moved as the Queensland Youth Symphony and conductor Simon Hewett present an evening of musical brilliance featuring Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1 and the hauntingly beautiful Rückert-Lieder.
Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, also known as the 'Titan,' is a colossal work that takes you on a journey through vast landscapes of human emotion. From its pastoral opening to its triumphant finale, this symphony is a testament to Mahler's genius, offering a blend of poignant melodies and orchestral brilliance.
The Rückert-Lieder, sung by Queensland Youth Symphony (QYS) Artist in Residence Nina Korbe, is a collection of five beautiful and intimately lyrical songs based on poems by Friedrich Rückert. In 1905 Mahler wrote to composer Anton Webern: “After Des Knaben Wunderhorn I could not compose anything but Rückert — this is lyric poetry from the source, all else is lyric poetry of a derivative sort.”
Experience the musical richness and expression of Mahler’s compositions, brought to life by our world-class youth orchestra and soloist.
