Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy. The foundations laid by these ancestors give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations, both First Nations and non-First Nations peoples, towards creating a better Queensland.

Overview

Eucalyptus is an ageless story of love and longing, about a daughter and a father. Ellen’s overprotective father has created a safe haven from the world — a forest of eucalypts. But is the forest a sanctuary? Or is Ellen, like Rapunzel, imprisoned? Ellen encounters a stranger amongst her father’s trees – a storyteller with enchanting tales of far-away lands.

Sir Jonathan Mills’ new opera is based on the Miles Franklin Award-winning novel by Murray Bail, and is directed by renowned Australian playwright Michael Gow, with designs by Simone Romaniuk.
