Overview

Two magical worlds collide in this thrilling double bill, Swan Lake Act 2 & Graduation Ball, presented by the premier youth ballet company, Ballet Theatre Queensland, in an exciting new collaboration with the Cadenza Chamber Players.

In the iconic Swan Lake Act 2, on the shores of a mystical lake, Prince Siegfried declares his undying love for the beautiful Princess Odette. She has been condemned by the sorcerer von Rothbart to be a swan for all but a few hours each night.

The glorious waltzes of Johann Strauss II then take us to a Viennese girls’ Graduation Ball of the 1840s. The cadets of the city’s military academy are also invited, and flirtations, high-spirited dances, and a secret romance are the delightful result.

This fun-filled ballet, created in the 1940s by David Lichine for the Original Ballet Russe, is guaranteed to become a firm favourite with a new generation of ballet lovers, and therefore not to be missed.

Staged by Artistic Director Clare Morehen, showcasing the talents of Queensland’s finest young dancers and the wonderful musicians of the Cadenza Chamber Players, Swan Lake Act 2 & Graduation Ball will delight audiences of all ages.
