Kindness at QPAC

It grows on trees...

1 min read

“Kindness – that simple word. To be kind – it covers everything, to my mind. If you’re kind that’s it.” – Roald Dahl

There’s been a lot happening on our Melbourne Street Green of late, but you may not yet have had a chance to get involved in our latest project, which kicked off this week – the Kindness Tree.

If you’re headed to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory over this school holidays, we’re inviting people of all ages to make a commitment to kindness and contribute to growing our Kindness Tree.

The installation is open on the Green from two hours before select performances with our kindness artist on hand to assist all who wish to participate.

We spoke with kindness artist Kian Dillon about the project:

Kian said the response so far had been extremely positive.

“Both children and parents are loving the artform – we’re getting some beautiful words and drawings.”

“Parents, of course, are coming up and looking at what their kids have written and feeling really warm about some of the things or laughing a little bit.”

“It’s just a really lovely idea and something that’s needed in our current environment.”

The Kindness Tree project inspires children to think about the little things we can all do to make our world a little brighter. Each tag looks small on its own, but when added to the tree the visible impact of hundreds of single acts of kindness is profound. We hope this activity gives children the sense of being part of something positive and meaningful.

So if you’re planning a trip to QPAC this September school holidays, come and add your kindness commitment to the tree!

Please note the Kindness Tree will not be running on Friday evening performances or the evening of Saturday 25 September.
