The case is reopened: Sherlock Holmes returns to QPAC

Mon 24 Aug 2026
Sherlock Holmes - The Mystery of the Valkyrie media release

Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), in association with Woodward Productions and Neil Gooding Productions, today announced that the case has been reopened, with a homegrown whodunnit, Sherlock Holmes - The Mystery of the Valkyrie returning to QPAC’s Playhouse from 14 to 29 November 2026.

Following its world premiere at QPAC in 2023, Sherlock Holmes - The Mystery of the Valkyrie is back for an exclusive Brisbane season that promises to keep Sherlock fans, amateur sleuths and true-crime devotees guessing until the very end.

Written and directed by acclaimed Brisbane playwright and director Michael Futcher, this innovative production puts a fresh spin on the world’s most famous detective, through an original mystery, fast-paced action and cinematic visual design by award-winning video designer Craig Wilkinson.

Six-time Matilda Award-winning actor Eugene Gilfedder returns as Sherlock Holmes, alongside acclaimed actor Ian Stenlake, best known for his roles in Australian television series Sea Patrol and Stingers, as his loyal companion, Dr Watson.

Together, the duo is drawn into a gruesome murder investigation at London’s Birlstone Manor, where a seemingly routine case soon unravels into a dark web of intrigue and a reckoning with Holmes’ most infamous enemy, Professor Moriarty.

The production continues QPAC’s support of Queensland artists and independent producers, with Brisbane-based Woodward Productions returning to QPAC following its recent acclaimed season of Little Shop of Horrors.

Woodward Productions Founder and Producer Alex Woodward said the team welcomed the opportunity to bring the production back to audiences at QPAC.

"The cast line-up is some of the best actors in the country, and we're incredibly grateful for QPAC's continued support in bringing this production to life," Mr Woodward said.

"It's a privilege to bring this thrilling piece of theatre to Queensland again – it's going to be an unforgettable night at the theatre."

Woodward Productions has been bringing theatre to audiences across Australia since 2016.

Tickets for Sherlock Holmes - The Mystery of the Valkyrie go on sale to the public from Wednesday 26 August at 9am via QPAC.

This is West End quality theatre for a wide audience.
