Fancy winding down on Fridays with free live beats outdoors?
Since 2009, Brisbanites in the know have joined with friends and family to chill out at live music sessions on QPAC’s Melbourne Street Green affectionately known as Green Jam. With our spring series Green Jam – Multicultural Mosaic, presented in partnership with Multicultural Australia, kicking off this Friday 17 September, there’s no better time to grab some mates and mosey on down for a good time.
But don’t take our word for it – during our recent Green Jam Winter Series, we pulled up a chair and had a chat with a few regulars to get the lowdown on why you should come along.
While the iconic musical West Side Story was wowing audiences in our Lyric Theatre, our Green Jam Winter Series was designed to heat things up outside as well with a vibrant Latin American themed program.
Cachicamo Latin Harp opened the series. A lively family group that spans a diversity of music from the Andes to Cuba with Spanish, Portuguese, African, and native American background, Cachicamo incorporates exotic instruments such as the Colombian Harp and the Cuatro Llanero (meaning four strings from the plains).
Here’s what the audience had to say:
“I was going to see West Side Story and saw the advert for Latin American music [at Green Jam]. We were going to eat elsewhere then thought we not come to Green Jam and drink, eat and listen.”
“We are regulars and always check out the website to find out if Green Jam is on and who will be playing. It’s great to be out amongst other people and enjoy live music.”
“We have been to so many of these events. We love the outdoors, the talent, there’s always something different on.”
“We are part of a Latin Dance group so were keen to come tonight to see Cachicamo. We are regulars though and follow Green Jam on Facebook. We would like our son to perform at Green Jam one day”
“I love that the mix of people always varies depending on what show is on after Green Jam.”
“It’s a great way to kick off your weekend!”
If you’re more the participatory type, then Green Jam’s offshoot, The Jam Club, held every second Wednesday night of the month on the Melbourne Street Green, will be right up your alley. To be a part of this latest community initiative, all you need is your own acoustic instrument to bring along to jam to a variety of folk music from all around the world.
Music is provided and all levels of musicians are welcome. Even if you don’t want to play, all are welcome to come along and simply enjoy the atmosphere.
So whether it’s a capping off the week on a Friday evening, or coming along to be a part of Jam Club mid-week, we invite you to pull up a chair and relax under the stars with us.
See you on the Green soon!
