Our First Nations program is bold, resilient, and features…
Something magical happens when a group of individuals sing together, making music so much greater than the sum of its parts. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this unique experience.
The QPAC Choir is a contemporary community choir for adults aged 18 years and over. Rehearsing Monday nights, the QPAC Choir provides access to imaginative repertoires, challenging skill development, social opportunities and public performance.
The choir is managed as part of QPAC’s artistic program. Our Chorusmaster, Timothy Sherlock, leads the choir and choir members also work with other professional conductors and musicians from time to time.
The QPAC Choir’s annual performance schedule includes the Spirit of Christmas concerts with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Throughout the year, the choir presents a range of exhilarating performances and collaborations in an ever-expanding range of styles and genres from choral masterworks, to pop and jazz standards; from Broadway showtunes to contemporary Australian choral compositions.
In a few short years, the choir has performed at a wide range of events including:
In 2014, the QPAC Choir was invited to record a rendition of Hana Wa Saku (Flowers will Bloom), a charity song produced by Japan national TV broadcaster NHK, as part of the NHK Great East Japan Earthquake Project to build support for recovery efforts following the tragic destruction and loss in the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake in north-eastern Japan. The recording was posted on the campaign website and used in NHK television programs, along with recordings of the song by other choirs from around the world.
The QPAC Choir has also recorded two CDs, Spirit of Christmas (2013) and Nightsongs (2016).
The annual QPAC Choir Choral Showcase is a major project for the choir and previous showcases have included:
2012: Pure Imagination – inspirational music from sacred, pop and film genres, including Mozart, Delibes and The Beatles
2013: True Colours – featuring music by Rutter, Kodály, Poulenc and pop hits by The Mamas and the Papas and Cyndi Lauper
2014: Watch What Happens! – a kaleidoscope of musical gems spanning folk, classical and film music including repertoire by Vivaldi, Bartok, Mancini and Legrand.
