Masterclass – The Royal Ballet

Masterclass with choreographers from The Royal Ballet

5 min watch

A masterclass is a class led by a leader or expert in their field to students of a specific artistic discipline.

An ideal way for visiting artists to connect with local artists, The Royal Ballet Masterclasses explored the creative practices, inspiration and thoughts behind Woolf Works and The Winter’s Tale.

Two classes were held during the 2017 QPAC International Series, led by Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet Wayne McGregor CBE, and Artistic Associate of The Royal Ballet, Christopher Wheeldon OBE.

After an introductory dance class, each choreographer led the students through how they choreograph, the language they use, their process, what it’s like to build a new work. Students were taken through repertory from works presented by The Royal Ballet. For these young, aspiring professional dancers, the opportunity to work with and learn from these leading internationally-renowned choreographers was invaluable.
