Stravinsky Funeral Song, Op.5
Britten Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes, Op.33a
Fauré Requiem, Op.48
Celebrate music in all its glory with works where musicianship is the star and where voices take pride of place. Be swept away by Stravinsky’s recently rediscovered score of the processional Funeral Song and Britten’s Four Sea Interludes. Then, be uplifted by Whitacre’s cinematic Cloudburst, where an eight-part choir, piano and percussion channel a terrifying thunderstorm, before Fauré’s sublime Requiem entices listeners into a beautiful ethereal sanctuary. By comparison with the choral blockbusters of Verdi, Brahms and Berlioz, Fauré’s setting is gentle. Ironically, this subtlety is its strength.
