Prokofiev Classical Symphony, Op.25 (Symphony No.1)
Kats-Chernin Piano Concerto No.3 World Premiere
Beethoven Symphony No.7 in A major, Op.92
The concert opens with Prokofiev’s first symphony. Its nickname, the Classical, originates from the work’s small instrumentation and stylistic inspiration from Haydn’s music. One of Beethoven’s best received works, his seventh Symphony, has enchanted audiences ever since its first performance. Full of rhythmical wit and energetic dance-like sections, it also includes the famous Allegretto, which was featured to accompany The King’s Speech by King George VI as played by Colin Firth. The world premiere of Elena Kats-Chernin’s Piano Concerto No.3 brings back this much loved composer with Australian piano star Tamara-Anna Cislowska.
