Queensland Ballet is proud to present the spectacular production of Derek Deane’s The Lady of the Camellias by sister company, Shanghai Ballet. The season launches Queensland Ballet’s incredible 60th anniversary year.

Based on the landmark, 1848 novel by Alexandre Dumas fils, the story follows one of the most beautiful and brazen courtesans in all of Paris as she leads a glittering yet tragic life. It’s a tale of forbidden love, sacrifice and tragedy that has inspired countless stage, operatic and film productions including Moulin Rouge!. Now is your chance to see the story unfold through dramatically powerful lyrical dance.

Lead ballerina Qi Bingxue captivates as the complex character of Marguerite Gautier, while Wu Husheng plays the role of Armand. After receiving rave reviews as part of the China Shanghai International Arts Festival, the production will appear exclusively in Brisbane.

Choreographer Derek Deane
Composer Carl Davis
Set and Costume Designer Adam Nee
Assistants to the Choreographer Ivan Gil Ortega and Ugo Ranieri

This season will be performed to recorded music.
