From Dec 17 2021, anyone entering QPAC aged 16 years or over will need to be fully vaccinated (or medically exempt) and provide proof of their vaccination status. Unvaccinated children under 16 years are still able to attend QPAC. There is currently no end date on this vaccination requirement, however we do not anticipate that the requirement will be removed prior to the end of this season.

Keeping all the balls and plates in the air, balancing on the kitchen table, weathering the storm that rattles the china, transforming familiar spaces of potential danger into spaces of safety and caring, staring down harm, demanding change, and sharing secret dreams for everyone to hear, these performers have created their own Circus in a Tea Cup.
Witness an exquisitely beautiful contemporary circus performance, in which Vulcana Circus ensemble members collaborate with survivors of gender-based abuse to tell true stories of recovery, resilience and triumph.
Queensland’s longest-running women’s arts company Vulcana Circus, in partnership with Brisbane Domestic Violence Service as part of Micah Projects, and QPAC, are proud to bring this wildly powerful work to Queensland audiences, drawing on Vulcana’s extensive experience in creating transformative works of physical performance.
This is a different kind of emancipation in real time. This is a true story about picking up the pieces and learning to fly high.
Directed by Celia White and Michelle Grant-Iramu.
Vulcana Circus has been an integral part of the cultural landscape of Queensland since 1995. Vulcana takes its name from a British strong woman who performed amazing feats of strength in the early part of the twentieth century. She was an early feminist, lobbying against the wearing of corsets and other restrictive clothing for women, and Vulcana is proud to take its name from this inspiring forebear of women’s circus (who could lift an adult above her head with one arm).
Across all our performance work we aim to represent diverse stories, bodies, abilities and creative responses. Circus provides a shared physical language for people of all backgrounds to explore, express, and build connections. Vulcana now welcomes women, trans and non-binary gendered adults, kids and teens of all genders, to its inclusive circus training, performance making projects, and community engagement programs. It is an incubator for new, emerging and professional artists who have developed their passion as practitioners, performers and teachers in this art form that offers everybody a place to explore their uniqueness and their creativity.
“I have to say, this was probably my favourite piece of art from this year.” Kristy Stanfield, Nothing Ever Happens in Brisbane for ‘Rear Vision’
“We were reminded of what it takes to be a woman and rejoiced in their expressions, freedoms and wild thoughts.” Elodie Boal, Scenstr for ‘As If No One Is Watching’
★★★★ “Showcased the advanced skills of Vulcana circus members, excelling in a poetic and divine display of talent and discipline.” Sally Peters, Artshub for ‘As If No One Is Watching’
