In the 15th century, a new form of dance emerged and within a couple of hundred years it had taken Europe by storm. Ballet was the court entertainment of King Louis XIV in the 1600s, and by the 1800s, was so popular that every composer who wanted to have their opera performed in Paris, had to work out how to get a ballet into the plot! In this first Music on Sundays concert for 2020, we’ll take your ears on a journey through the history of French ballet, from the early court music through to the opera house, showcasing the gorgeous and dynamic melodies that have powered the feet of dancers through the ages!
