Overview

Icelandic musician, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Olafur Arnalds performs for the very first time at QPAC in a special concert event.

By mixing strings and piano with loops and edgy beats, Arnalds fuses electronica, ambient and pop for a markedly unique sound. Playing songs from his upcoming album re:member and his extensive back catalogue, Arnalds' live show is set to break all the rules.

“This is my breaking out-of-a-shell album. This is me taking the raw influences that I have from all these different musical genres and not filtering them. I always have my hands in many different projects at once, and I feel that this album represents that.”  Olafur Arnalds

But Arnalds’ journey has not been the typical path for classical composers – beginning his music career instead as a drummer for metal bands. In 2004, he was asked to write instrumentals for the album of metal band, Heaven Shall Burn. This led to more work in the field of neo-classical strings and piano based music, and ultimately the release of his debut album Eulogy for Evolution in 2007. He has since written eight albums, several film scores (from the TV series Broadchurch to Hollywood films including Taken and The Hunger Games) and composed and played in many musicals from styles of prog-rock to electro-pop to classical minimalism.

“…insanely beautiful rating 5/5 I’d give it 6/5 if it were possible!”  Yorkshire Times

Olafur’s new album, re:member, is scheduled for release on 24 August, 2018.
