Formed in 2017, the trio explores new music by leader/guitarist/composer, Michael Knopf, using both electric jazz guitar and seven-string classical guitar.

The original works are varied in character due to Michael’s artistic ethos in cross-genre experimenting. The pieces range from Brazilian Jazz and Indian classical stylistic improvisations on classical guitar to full-on Bop, Bossas, evocative ballads, to Groove, Funk and Fusion. Each set moves between unique instrumental resonances with transitions from acoustic to electric sound spaces, and the occasional Flamenco and Middle Eastern influence.

The band also presents select Jazz standards giving each piece an entirely new interpretation as the musicians draw on many genres and decades of experience re-interpreting and revealing the band’s unique aesthetic slant with phrasing, timbre and texture. The dynamics of trio playing are brought out in vibrant jazz explorations of sonority, energy and gesture, with strong rhythmic textures and intensely engaging melodies.

The trio’s core members include on acoustic and electric bass, Lachlan Symons, and on drums, Lachlan Hawkins.
