Planning a School Visit
Students might visit QPAC to see a show, participate in a workshop or forum, view an exhibition, or take a backstage tour. Whatever the reason, your visit is eagerly awaited!
Once you have decided to visit us, there are a number of suggestions to make your visit trouble-free and memorable.
Before
Check
- Performance details on your tickets (name of the production, venue, date, and times)
- Number of tickets matches the number of students and staff attending
- Finish time of the performance (including interval) for pick-up by coaches or parents
Dress
- If students are not required to wear school uniform, smart casual wear is suggested.
Travel light
- Please leave all large bags at school or secured on coaches
- If this is not possible, please check bags into cloakrooms and designated holding areas
- There are limited secure storage facilities for bags at QPAC. Please note that while exercising every care, we cannot take responsibility for the security of baggage.
Student preparation
- Refer to support materials
- Read a synopsis or program outline
- Discuss aspects of the specific art form
- Examine the nature of live performance
- Identify likely technical elements (e.g. lighting, sound, set or costume design)
- Consider possible responses to the production
During
On arrival
- Aim to be at your allocated doors 10 to 15 minutes prior to start of the show.
- To assist our Front of House staff, please distribute individual tickets to students for entry into the theatre.
- Arrange a meeting point at which your group can assemble after the show.
During a performance
It is critical to the safety of performers that there are no mobile phones (including SMS and MMS messaging), flash bulbs, or video cameras used use during the performance.
- In respect of fellow patrons, students should not move in and out of allocated seats after 'house lights' go down unless absolutely necessary. Any evacuation procedures will be led by Front-of-House staff.
- Food and drink are not permitted in the auditorium as a workplace health and safety precaution. Bottled water is permitted.
- For least interruption to the performers and other patrons, latecomers will be admitted into the auditorium at a suitable time nominated by the Stage Manager.
After
- Remember to collect all belongings before leaving the venue.
