KITE Arts Education Program @ QPAC
Participative Arts Projects
In 2007
KITE Arts Education Program @ QPAC undertook extensive research and consultation to determine the creative and artistic needs of children across Queensland. KITE investigated best practice in arts delivery and identified communities in which resources and expertise in the arts would have the greatest impact.
Informed by these research findings
KITE teacher artists developed a commitment to participatory projects that build capacity in Queensland schools and their broader communities. The resulting projects have been a series of short-term residencies and long-term participatory projects carried out in those schools identified as experiencing high rates of social exclusion.
Participatory Arts Projects are created with the philosophy that children are co-artists who actively construct and participate in the arts.
KITE projects culminate in performances by children supported by professional artists.
KITE continues its commitment to participatory works throughout 2009 supported by Education Queensland's Year of Creativity.
