What is Out of the Box?
The Out of the Box Children's festival is a biennial event held at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) from 8 to 14 June 2010.
QPAC's Out of the Box Festival is one of its kind in Australia as a week long cultural and arts event dedicated to children. Over 9 previous festivals, the experience of our young audiences, their teachers and parents has been enhanced by the dedication and enthusiasm of hundreds of volunteers.
Next year, the festival is going to be held across the Cultural Centre precinct as we are working with the Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland Museum and State Library of Queensland. The 2010 festival will be very special as it will be the 10th Out of the Box Festival and it is the first time the festival is aimed at children 8 years old and under and their families. 2010 also marks the year of QPAC's 25th Anniversary so it will be a very exciting time for QPAC.
We Need You
QPAC is seeking motivated individuals to volunteer at the festival. As a festival volunteer you will be assigned to a particular location or event within QPAC to guide school groups and patrons around the festival, direct to their scheduled events and assist with workshops and general enquiries. Previous experience is not essential, as long as you are reliable, personable, enthusiastic and love working with children! You will also be required to hold a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or have the ability to obtain this. Blue card application and renewal forms will be coordinated by the Human Resources Unit prior to the festival in February 2010.
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering at Out of the Box is a great experience. Volunteers who have assisted in the past have found the experience a very fulfilling one, experiencing the highest quality arts and cultural programs for this age group and gaining an excellent insight into working with young children. If you volunteer for the festival you will receive the popular Out of the Box t-shirt, a Volunteers Pass, lunch (if you volunteer for a whole day) and a certificate of participation. The festival will also process your blue card application if you don't already have one, and we are already planning a special thank-you for all volunteers. Volunteers are an important part of the success of this biennial event. We would be unable to provide such an enriching and enjoyable experience to the thousands of children and school groups who attend without the amazing help and enthusiasm of our volunteers.
