Since 1992 Out of the Box, Australia's leading early childhood arts and cultural festival, has been developing extraordinary arts experiences for children in collaboration with early childhood teachers, artists and researchers. Approximately 46,500 children, parents, teachers and families attended the 2008 Festival, which for the first time extended across the Cultural Centre. Out of the Box will return from Tuesday 8 to Monday 14 June 2010, with a program of free and ticketed performances, workshops, exhibitions, and creative spaces especially designed for children 8 years and under.
A new chamber music project that challenges secondary school students to explore the full dimensions of chamber repertoire, from the musical greats to the most dynamic contemporary music, Playing it Together encourages young musicians to work together to develop their instrumental technique, ensemble skills, and live performance experience. Sign up closes 20 July with semi-finals and finals to be held at QPAC on 1-3 November.
In June 2008 and 2009, QPAC developed and presented its inaugural comedy festival, In Stitches, featuring some of the country’s most revered comedy performers, as well as a free outdoor music and comedy program. In Stitches will return in 2010.
QPAC's inaugural national busking competition, BU$K, came to a spectacular conclusion on Saturday 1 August 2009, with 16 talented acts vying for prizes to the value of $10,000. Entertaining the crowd in QPAC's Cascade Court and taking out the major prize was Gold Coast-based rhythm and groove duo The Twine. Stay tuned for more about BU$K in 2010.
