After 25 years of gigs in venues all over the world, from the Village Hall to the Royal Albert Hall, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain comes to the QPAC Concert Hall for the very first time.

Bringing only their 'bonsai guitars', and the belief that all musical genres are available for reinterpretation (as long as they are played on the uke!), the Ukelele Orchestra does away with drums, piano, backing tracks, pitch shifters and electronic trickery. With a virtuosic collision of raw post-punk performance and toe-tapping oldies - from Tchaikovsky to Nirvana via Otis Redding and Spaghetti Western soundtracks - the Orchestra is routinely met with standing ovations.

Modern exercise in minimal art? Or a rabble-rousing music hall/stadium rock experience? Either way, you'll never think about music in the same way.

"Plucking brilliant." Sunday Times

"The best musical entertainment in the country...worth travelling a thousand miles to hear." The Independent

The beauty about choosing to attend a performance based on the title and a picture of the group, is that you have no idea what to expect. I think even if I had read a bit about them, or watched a youtube post, it wouldn't have done justice to the experience of seeing The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain in a live performance. The setting was quite intimate, the eight of them, positioned on the stage on a line of chairs. They joked and bantered with the audience and with each other throughout the show, and what an enjoyable show it was. Their ukuleles seemed to transform from their recognisable tone into a flamenco guitar in one song, a mandolin in the next and a pop guitar in another. The songs were also transformed - surprising us once we recognised a familiar tune. I'm a convert, even bought their cd and got them to sign it. They were very obliging - joining the awaiting crowd within 15 minutes of finishing their performance. Happily chatting and signing. I smiled for the entire performance - either laughing at their jokes or in awe of their skill. A very enjoyable night out.

Thoroughly enjoyable show. Talented players. Show was excellent but would have been more enjoyable if it had included some South Pacific "influence" E.g. songs or tunes from The Cook islands, Rarotonga etc where the Ukulele is the instrument commonly used to accompany sing a longs.
