Russian Conductor Edvard Tchivzhel returns to Brisbane with Tchaikovsky's symphonic poem Francesca da Rimini, a musical vortex of anguished love where the music demonstrates a lyrical and dramatic genius. In the final work Maestro Tchivzhel and the orchestra will sweep the audience into total submission with Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances, darkly glamorous, even slightly wicked music and his last orchestral work... In between, Russian pianist Nikolai Demidenko, once described as a force of nature at the keyboard, in Rachmaninov's spikily brilliant Fourth Piano Concerto. Both works prove Rachmaninov's creative power remained undimmed at the end of his life.
