Overview

By Giuseppe Verdi

Production new to Queensland

Opera's most spectacular work makes a triumphant return in this new production by Graeme Murphy, who brought you Puccini's unforgettable Turandot.

In Ancient Egypt, the princess Amneris hopes to marry Radamès, a military commander, but he is in love with her slave-girl, Aida. What will be their destiny as Radamès is forced to choose between his love for Aida and his loyalty to the Pharaoh?

This exotic production has all the punch and pageantry to match Verdi's thrilling choruses and breathtaking arias. Australian soprano Zara Barrett makes her role debut as the Ethiopian slave, Aida, with Australian-born, UK-based tenor, Julian Gavin performing the role of Radamès with Milijana Nikolic as Amneris.

With the Opera Queensland Chorus and Queensland Symphony Orchestra

Sung in Italian with projected English translations

An Opera Conference co-production.
