Music & Lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg
adapted by John Kane from the MGM Motion Picture

Join Dorothy, Scarecrow, Lion, the Tin Man and Toto on a magical trip down the yellow brick road as Harvest Rain Theatre Company presents the beloved classic The Wizard of Oz

This spectacular new production from the team that brought you Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar features all your favourite songs from the Oscar-winning movie score, including the timeless classics Somewhere Over the Rainbow, We're Off to See the Wizard and If I Only had a Heart.

Journey somewhere over the rainbow, click your heels together three times and rediscover the brilliant tale in which dreams really do come true.

This production is a community development project.
By arrangement with Tams Whitmark Music Library, Inc.

Meet the cast of The Wizard of Oz

Dana Musil as Dorothy The role of Dorothy will be played by new-comer Dana Musil. At the age of 17, Dana completed her first year of Harvest Rain's Musical Theatre Internship Program in 2011, where she wowed audiences with her inspired performance as Rona Lisa Peretti in Harvest Rain's production of THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE. "I'm so excited to take on the role of Dorothy," says Dana. "I've watched the film all my life and always felt I was a lot like Dorothy, so this is just a dream come true."
Shaun Kohlman as Scarecrow Accompanying her on her journey down the yellow brick road will be Shaun Kohlman in the role of the Scarecrow. Audiences will remember Shaun for his performances as Doody in GREASE and Marty in DANI GIRL. This marks Shaun's return to the Playhouse stage after playing the role of Simon in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR this year before stepping into the role of Judas when the leading man broke his leg on opening night.
Dan Venz as Tinman Fresh from his acclaimed performance in Oscar Theatre Company's production of SPRING AWAKENING, Dan Venz will play the role of Tinman. While this is Dan's first production with Harvest Rain, he brings years of singing and dancing experience to the role, which he won by enduring a rigorous dance audition to find a performer who can physically bring the Tinman to life on stage.
Matty Johnston as Lion The role of the Lion will be played by Matty Johnston, in what will be his first performance with Harvest Rain and his first performance on the QPAC stage. Matty brings a great voice and an incredible comic flair to the role made famous in the MGM film by the legendary Bert Lahr.

Brisbane theatre favourite Penny Farrow will be "going green" as the Wicked Witch of the West, and her nemesis Glinda the Good Witch of the North will be played by Angela Harding, whose last performance with Harvest Rain was as the Narrator in JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT at the Playhouse in 2009.

Fresh from his performance as Herod in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR this year, Steven Tandy will play the title role of the Wizard.

An ensemble comprising 30 of Queensland's best musical theatre performers will also take the journey to Oz, accompanied by a talented children's cast of 50 singing and dancing munchkins!

As a child I loved The Wizard of Oz and waited all these years to finally enjoy it live on stage with my daughter who is a huge "Oz" fan. We had the best time. The show was all we hoped for. If I closed my eyes I would have believed the talented actress was Judy Garland herself. I loved this production, the sets, the music. Well Done and thanks for a great show!

the show started out slowly with small sets and a huge empty stage. That was the beginning, it increased as the show proceeded and improved greatly into the 1st act. the 2nd act was totally different it picked up by 65% bringing it into a highly good experience. The Matinee I attended included a lot of children, who enjoyed the show explicity laughed a clapped at the experience they were enjoying. In all it was a totally enjoyable cast with excellent costumes and cast. An excellent entertainment.

A good production that kept to a lot of the original film. Fabulous sets. An excellent performance by the Tin Man and Lion. Only criticism was the sound which was a bit screechy but overall well done to the entire cast. An enjoyable evening.

Harvest Rain's production of The wizard of OZ is out of this world! With beautiful songs, snazzy dance routines and that timeless story of finding the courage, brains and love you need to truly feel at home ,audiences will be enthralled. Dana Musil shines as Dorothy. The support cast are terrific and there can't be more enthusiastic or colorful bunch of Munchikins any where! Just a great afternoon out at the theater for the whole family.
