Please note, due to heat conditions Brisbane is currently experiencing we suggest you have plenty of fluids and wear appropriate clothing for Dinosaur Petting Zoo which is located under a tent in the Melbourne Street Green, QPAC.

It’s a petting zoo, but not as you know it!

An interactive dinosaur puppet show for the whole family. Get up close and personal with prehistoric creatures that once roamed free across the ancient lands of Terra Australis.

Come eye to eye with an amazing array of mostly friendly (!), life-like creatures from cute baby dinosaurs to the teeth-gnashing ferocity of the Australovenator. Feed, pet and interact with them in a once-in-a-lifetime imaginative experience.

Families experience an amazing selection of dinosaurs and creatures that inhabited the landscape millions of years ago.

Children will have the opportunity to help feed, water and care for these prehistoric marvels with simple lessons in animal husbandry.

Erth Visual & Physical Inc.’s awesome menagerie of insects, mammals and dinosaurs will come to life on the Melbourne Street Green in a unique, fun and educational performance that will thrill and delight children of all ages.

Please note: A variety of seating will be provided including cushions & mats on the ground to allow children a close up view of the dinosaurs in action. Rostra and chairs will make up the remainder of the seating.

In the event of inclement weather, outdoor performances may be cancelled. Patrons may exchange tickets to the cancelled event for an equivalent available performance to be determined on the day. Refunds will be given only in the last instance if exchange is not agreeable or possible.

The Sunday Mail Dinosaur Dungeon

What is it?

A 5x4 metre, semi-enclosed, Dinosaur Dungeon themed colouring-in station hosted by The Sunday Mail’s Zoo Rangers. A space which will capture a child’s imagination and nurture their creativity.

Every child’s artwork will be displayed in the Dinosaur Dungeon and will go in the running to be published in the next edition of The Sunday Mail’s Factor X.

Where is it?

At QPAC, opposite Erth’s Dinosaur Petting Zoo (the big blue tent on the Melbourne Street Green).

What else is on offer?

After the show become a dinosaur thanks to The Sunday Mail. As you exit the performance gates all children (and adults!) will receive their very own Triceratops dinosaur hat and claws from The Sunday Mail Zoo Rangers. Make sure you check the back for some fun dinosaur facts!

I thought it was sensational. Shep prepared both the parents and the adults for the fact they may get scared and many including my six yr old daughter did, but that was due to the realism. I thought it was incredibly engagin, throroughly professional and chock ful of energy. it delighted everyone who attended. Some people may have been better served attending a normal petting zoo, not a dinosaur petting zoo. Wish we coudl go again

The entire show was amazing and my granddaughters loved it. (except when the girl put her head in the big dinosaur's mouth) As an adult I thoroughly enjoyed the puppetry the lifelike mannerisms of the dinosaurs. Well worth seeing, will go again.

Dinosaur Petting Zoo

I took my 5 yr old grandson, who is highly informed about dinosaurs, because the outline for the show indicated it was very child friendly. In fact it was totally inappropriate with the MC, Shep, embarrasing a young mother by selecting her and then giving her a lengthy hug. He actually built up fear in the children by threatening to feed them to the dinosaur and used the Australovenitor in a manner that terrified the young ones. I saw my grandson was distressed and, with the help of a mother withdrawing upset young ones, responded to his request to be taken out immediately.As a result, my grandson refuses see the Museum's Dinosaur display and refused to even walk past it once he heard the roars and was told by the attendant that there were carnivores there. A potentialy positive experience was ruined because Shep lied to the children by saying if they sat still nothing would happen to them, then deliberately built up fear, taught them to protect their faces then let the Australovenitor loose to cause screams. The children were separated from the adults so I did not know at what point he was terrified and he felt betrayed that no adult asked Shep to stop. In his words, "Shep lied to me then freaked me out."
