This concert is presented in Reverse Mode in QPAC's Concert Hall.
We open our 2012 season celebrating Claude Debussy, one of the most pivotal composers to span the 19th and 20th centuries and one whose extraordinary use of tone colour, timbre and harmonies altered the direction of classical music.
From the haunting Syrinx, played by guest flautist Emma Sholl, to arguably his most famous work; Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, inspired by the evocative poetry of Stéphane Mallarmé, join us in exploring Debussy's inimitable talent to conjure a sense of veiled imagery through this transcendent and beautiful music.
Also included in the program is Debussy's Sonata for Cello, one of his only complete sonatas for any instrument. The vocal works of Francis Poulenc and Maurice Ravel's famous Mother Goose Suite draw the afternoon of French music to a close.
