However you can still be part of music history in the making during an Open Rehearsal of The Gothic at 10am on 22 December.
Said to be cursed, the immense Gothic Symphony has remained unperformed for over 30 years. Two hours long and requiring immense orchestral and choral forces, this is perhaps unsurprising.
Officially recognised by the Guinness Book of Records (1974) as the largest, longest and most technically difficult symphony ever composed, it is widely regarded as the Mount Everest of classical music.
Queensland's longest established conductor, maestro John Curro will wield the baton for an orchestra comprising the alumni of Queensland Youth Orchestra and esteemed colleagues, alongside the combined vocal power of Queensland's leading choirs. Havergal Brian's Symphony No.1, inspired by the grand scale architecture and art of the gothic movement, is an ingeniously constructed spectacle of musical gigantism and sensory beauty.
The eyes of the world will be cast upon Brisbane and its musical community as we stage the first ever performance outside England.
