QPAC Choir

About the QPAC Choir

The QPAC Choir is a new contemporary group for people of all ages. The Choir is an initiative of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) and is managed as part of QPAC's artistic program.

Resident chorusmaster, Alison Rogers prepares the choir.  Dave Mibus and John Woods are currently the choir's resident accompanists. You will also work with other guest conductors and musicians from time to time.

Suitability

The QPAC Choir is open to adults and young  people of varied singing abilities. A level of music literacy and/or singing experience will be considered an advantage however members of various abilities do participate and are encouraged to continue their musical learning throughout the year.

Repertoire

The QPAC Choir sings an imaginative mix of repertoire ranging from contemporary popular music to classical styles. You will be provided with all music required, and from time to time you may also be given learning resources to assist you in your preparation.

Rehearsals

Choir rehearsals are run in term blocks of between 8 and 10 weeks each. There are 4 terms per year. You will need to attend rehearsals each Monday night from 7.00pm to 8.30pm at QPAC during term time. Sometimes you will also be asked to attend a 'sectional' rehearsal (ie. alto, soprano, tenor or bass) one hour prior to the main rehearsal. There are generally 2 sectional rehearsals for each voice type per term.

In order to be involved in specific public performances, you will sometimes need to attend more intensive rehearsals that you will be advised about as soon as details are available. It may be possible to attend Monday rehearsals, subject to discussion, even if you know you cannot be involved in a particular performance, but attendance is monitored throughout each term and poor attendance may impact on your future involvement.

Cost

Membership is $50 per term and is payable prior to commencement of each term. While it is possible to join for any one term in the year, we do strongly encourage you to commit to the full year in order to get the most out of the experience, and enable the choir to achieve its very best as a whole.

Social Opportunities

From time to time, informal social events are organised including post rehearsal nibblies and post performance celebrations. We also provide you with access to QPAC's green room cafeteria so you can socialise, eat and drink prior to each rehearsal.  The Choir's new Facebook site can be accessed here.
