For fans of jazz music in all its forms and lovers of Afro-Cuban and latin music, this is a special night not to be missed!

Hailed as "the dean of Latin jazz" and "one of the world's great virtuosic pianists" (New York Times), eight time Grammy® Award winner Chucho Valdés is revered among the most influential jazz artists of our time, embracing and transcending the roots of Afro-Cuban music.

Valdés has recorded over eighty CD's during his illustrious career, performing with countless jazz masters, including Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis and Chick Corea. With more than half a century of innovation behind him, Valdés continues to renew the vision of his work with his profound understanding of the history of jazz and his staggering improvisational inventiveness.

Introduced by his father Bebo Valdés, musical director of Havana's famed Tropicana Club Orchestra, to such American stars as Nat 'King' Cole and Sarah Vaughan, Valdés has demonstrated enormous range since his first recordings at age 18. Over his four-decade career he has established the groundbreaking jazz-rock-concerto-dance ensemble Irakere, and won international acclaim for exploring Afro-Cuban rhythmic heritages and works by Romantic masters such as Chopin, Debussy and Ravel.

Performing his first national tour of Australia, Valdés will be joined by his esteemed Havana based band. This concert will include music from his 2013 album release, Border Free - the eagerly awaited follow-up to Chucho’s Steps, which won the 2011 Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album.
